Wild and Free and Part of Me

Wild and Free and Part of Me

The Horse:

Wild and free, wild and free!

I strain at the bit…. Don’t try to contain me!

Let me be as I am, galloping across the vast, grassy hills, amongst the trees.

Trust me and let me be!

The One Who Holds the Reins:

Ahh, but don’t you get it? Chaos will ensue.

Not only for me but for you!

I can’t allow it- the mess that will come.

Don’t you know?

We mustn’t, we mustn’t let it fall apart!

The mess that comes when you run wild and free

With your Heart!

The Horse:

 Yes, I hear your fear.

You worry that to let me go means heartache and tears.

But I must tell you… I can’t stand going on like this.

Straining, and pulling at the corral door, thrusting at the bit.

You must understand-

I long to roam the hills, the forest, the lands

Galloping about

Trusting, expansive, no doubt!

I must be free to be as I am.

Otherwise, I am hampered, hemmed in confined by your hand

You aim for safety, You worry I know.

The world will collapse and it will be your fault so-

So you tell yourself, but I have another what if

What if we work together bit by bit?

I don’t want chaos and mess and destruction.

I just want to feel free from all the burdens and injunctions!

I will try to hear you.

Will you try to hear me?

I can’t be held back anymore.

I need to be free!

The One Who Holds the Reins:

Okay, okay, I hear you say

You don’t want chaos, harm or destruction today.

I hear you trying to listen to me AND

I hear that you want to be free.

 I am scared.

 It’s true.

What do I do?

If you stumble and fall or trample something important?

It could fall apart and we’d be to blame.

I don’t know if I could handle it-

The loneliness, the shame.

Horse:

Sighhhhh, breathe.

I hear the fear in you still.

It’s hard to let me go when you know you will-

Have to risk mistakes, messes and the like-but I want to assure you

When that happens-We will, together make it right.

You are not alone, even if I run free.

Remember I am a part of you and you—

 A part of me.

Together:

So, where do we go and what do we do?

You run free and I will be with you

So though different in some ways we are also the same.

I won’t leave you alone and you won’t tighten the reins.
